Portree
On May 25, our group took a bus from Fort William to Eilean Donan Castle. The Castle was originally built in the thirteenth century and for centuries was the stronghold of the Mackenzie clan. It was rebuilt in the early twentieth century by a Scottish family who still owns it. After the tour, I left the group to be picked up by a rental car company in nearby Kyle of Lochalsh. After picking up my rental car, I drove across a bridge from Kyle onto the Isle of Skye. I drove to Portree, a seaport and the largest town on Skye, where I stayed in a bed and breakfast. I walked from my accommodations into the town and toured the central area.
