Skiing at Yellowstone

Early in the morning on Friday, I skied from the Snow Lodge the short distance out to the Old Faithful Geyser. There were four bison next to the geyser with people taking pictures close to the animals. The geyser erupted with steam and hot water. Later in the morning, I skied with a group up forested trails through the back country, along lovely Spring Creek to the Lone Star Geyser. It was overcast all morning. We ate lunch by the Geyser, and as it gurgled and steamed, the clouds dissipated and the sun came out. A couple of us returned on the Kepler Cascades Trail which was fast and fun and not too steep. The second day we rode a Bombardier out to the Fairy Falls trailhead and skied through the wide-open Midway Geyser basin and through a forest of young lodgepoles to the high, icy waterfall. We skied back to the Snow Lodge on an up and down trail. The third day, we rode a Bombardier to the Spring Creek Trailhead and back to the lodge on the Lonestar Geyser and Kepler Cascades trails.
