Yesterday, I hiked to Storm Peak with a CMC group. Some of the hike was on trails, but most involved off-trail hiking through the forest. The Rampart Range is a wild and rugged area on the west side of the Front Range mountain ridge between Denver and Colorado Springs. The CMC has the Rampart Range Wildlands Project that is trying to maintain a large part of the Range as a roadless area and maybe someday a wilderness area. This involves separating areas for use by motorized dirt bikes and atv's from an area where motorized use is prohibited. Despite a sign at the trail head prohibiting motorized use, we saw signs of use by motorcycles.
