Geneva
On Saturday, August 22, Marilyn, Denise and I left Herbriggen, a small hamlet, down valley from Zermatt, on a train to Geneva for our flight home on Sunday. Our hotel was near the airport but we had time in the afternoon to ride a local bus to downtown Geneva, where we spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful old part of the city starting from the large museum and the Russian Orthodox Church. We could see the spires of the Cathedral in the center of the old city but walked through the maze of narrow, cobble-stone streets, looking at the small shops, wonderful buildings, and busy city squares for sometime before we actually found the Cathedral.
After going in the Cathedral, we sat outdoors in the square next to the Cathedral and ate wonderful crepes from a crepe shop when we were surprised by a bell concert playing from the bell tower of the Cathedral. It was one of those special travel moments. After eating, we walked to the lake shore to see the famous water tower.
