Eccles Pass
Yesterday, I went on a club hike led by Dave Callais back into the beautiful Eagles Nest Wilderness. We hiked a thirteen mile loop with over 3,000 feet of elevation gain over Eccles Pass. Once again the flowers and scenery were lovely. Above treeline, on the final climb to the pass, we saw an unusual solitary heather bush with purple flowers which filled my head with the song:
Oh the summer time is coming
And the leaves are gently turning
And the wild mountain thyme
Blooms across the purple heather
Will you go, lassie go
We passed aptly named Lily Pad Lake. Near the end, the forest was full of wild roses.
