Guanella Pass
After eight weeks without walking, without my weekday headphone-workouts, and without weekend trips to more sacred territories, I get my cast removed in three days. Although I will likely still have much work and rehab ahead, it will be a cause for celebration. On a beautiful Easter Sunday, I took a drive to the mountains. I drove as far as I could up the Guanella Pass Road to the point where the snow stopped me. Below I stopped at a deserted campground to eat lunch on a picnic table underneath tall pines. There was a view up the valley to a snow-covered peak. A handsome Steller's Jay watched me eat from the tree above. It helped my ragged mental state immensely.
