Mount Massive

Mount Massive

Before dawn on Sunday morning, I started climbing the trail to the summit of 14,421 foot high Mount Massive.  The trail was steep but very well established.  As I climbed, numerous furry Pikas ran across the trail.  Later, I spotted a white Marmot.  I did not know they could be white, especially in the summer.  High up the side of the mountain, I saw two mountain goats.  The top of the mountain is a long ridge and I hiked along the ridge to the high point.  Like on Elbert, the summit is an amazingly long way above treeline and the valley below.  The views were exceptionally hazy for Colorado, which may be due to wildfires in Wyoming, Utah or Montana.  I could see the North Halfmoon Lakes far below. I reached the summit at 9:00 am.

I saw that same white marmot. So weird.
