Forty Mile Gulch

Forty Mile Gulch

We hiked directly from our camp into Forty Mile Gulch. Soon we were hiking in a narrow canyon where we had to wade in water to continue. We bathed in a pool below a small waterfall. At times, we had to wade in water that was up to our chests. We passed the monumental Broken Bow Arch. On the way out of the canyon loop, we found ourselves in a dead-end box canyon and climbed steeply out to find that we were on the wrong side. We had to descend again in to the canyon and find the main trail up the other side. After a long walk to camp on a road, there was a fiery sunset.
