Salcantay Pass
On Sunday, we had our long hiking day. First, we climbed up to Salcantay Pass at an elevation of over 15,000 feet. On the pass, there were many piles of stones that people had made to honor the great mountain that towered over us. Our guide had us build a stone monument and each give an offering of coca leaves to the sacred Apu Salcantay. We then hiked down several thousand feet into the cloud forest. In all, we hiked over thirteen miles that day.
