On Monday morning we started the official program with a tour of the central historic place of old Lima with the great cathedral and the major government buildings. We toured the cathedral and saw where the conquistador Francisco Pizarro is buried and saw various religious art. We also toured the old Monastario de San Francisco with its amazing wood carvings and toured the catacombs where the bones of the dead from throughout the city were stored in older times. These tours gave us a sampling of the old Spanish culture in Peru. Lima was the Spanish city, founded by Pizarro.
