Bandit Peak
Last Sunday I went on a club hike lead by Dave Goldwater in the Mount Evans Wilderness. Dave is a retired gentleman and a mountain demon. It was overcast, but not cold, at the beginning of the hike. After hiking part of the way up the Rosalie Trail, we bushwhacked straight up the side of Bandit Peak. The leader kept up a fast pace, and it was quite a workout. On the 12,444 foot high top, the wind was blowing with gale force and excessive wind chill, so we did not stay long. The ascent had been mostly dry but the descent down the north side was covered with deep snow below the tree line so we put on snowshoes for the climb down. It was fun sliding down steeply in the deep powder. Once we were back in the trees, the weather was quite comfortable.
