Positano

We started our hike on top of the peninsular ridge at the church of St Maria del Castello and the Village of Montepertusa. Far below, we could see the town of Positano on the Bay of Salerno. Our hike traversed the side of the mountains on the “Way of the Gods” trail through dramatic settings of sheer limestone cliffs with stone peaks above us. Along this trail, we spotted a large herd of goats crossing a ledge above us. The descent to Positano was grueling with thousands of stone steps. Positano is vertical, falling dramatically down to the sea. The central area contains varied, multi-colored buildings on narrow but busy shopping streets which descend, tunnel-like to the sea. Typical for our hikes, we ended at a café on the beach enjoying cappuccinos and nice desserts.
